Paris, France – There are always obstacles going into any Olympic Games because the things are just so darn big and thus require a ton of focus and attention and money to make work. Sometimes, just by the nature of the Games, the international portion causes trouble, something which has most certainly happened with the upcoming Games in Russia.
New York, NY – Professional sport at one time didn’t really have anything to deal with at all. The NFL, really through the 1980’, was a free-for-all league that allowed all manner of player and person to play, sometimes even outright criminals, and worrying was not a thing they really did much of, the league that is.
Sochi, Russia – Ahead of the Olympics in Sochi there was a lot of talk, most of it very negative. There was a lot of talk about the cost of the Games and the corruption possibly, likely, involved in building Olympic venues. There was talk about human rights especially when it comes to gay people. Most of all, though, the talk was about the possibility of terrorism.
Sochi, Russia – It is almost without fail that there some kind of controversy at the Olympics, any Olympics, no matter where they are held. Some, like say the Berlin Games in 1936, have been really controversial and for good reason, as it turned out, but in recent times nothing has been quite like Sochi.

Corruption is common and almost universal and always there are concerns about the readiness of the facilities, in the winter concerns about weather conditions, and of course security, that’s a big thing too.
Sochi, Russia – After billions and billions spent, after years of worry, and after all the controversy that has greeted the Games over the last few months, the Sochi Winter Olympics have gotten underway. Last night the Games were launched with and glittering opening ceremony full of history and dancing and fireworks, the same kind of thing that opens every Olympic Games.
