CALIFORNIA MOM BRINGS NEW ATTENTION TO FEMALE RAPISTS
April 15 2009
Stockton, CA – Of the many shocking revelations in the death of 8-year old Sandra Cantu none has been more surprising than the gender of the murderer. When the young girl went missing the accepted logic was that it had been a man, likely a creepy and lonely one, that had made off with the girl. The arrest of 28-year old Melissa Huckaby has brought shock not only to the quaint town of Tracy California, but to the country as a whole and has female rapists running for cover.
Family friend Huckaby was arraigned today on charges of rape and murder after Cantu’s body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase. Though prosecutors have not yet decided on whether or not they will pursue the death penalty, Huckaby may be wishing for such a decision as rage amongst rapists starts to turn towards the disgraced Sunday school teacher.
“Rape has become one of those mundane crimes. It happens so often throughout the country that many people just take it as a matter of course even when it occurs with children. The issue here for many is the murder and the fact that it was done by a woman. This event brings rape into a whole new level of public awareness and is going to make things a lot more difficult for rapists,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “In recent years rape and child abuse has enjoyed nearly unbridled
growth and that is surely going to continue as the economy worsens and depression settles in amongst the population. Unfortunately this situation is going to make it a lot more difficult to get away with as law enforcement’s attention is going to be a little more focused.”
In recent months many law enforcement agencies across the country have concentrated on traffic tickets and by-law enforcement in an effort to generate revenue for failing government budgets. That has been especially true in California which has been suffering under significant financial pressure even before the recession went into full effect.
“Public outcry being what it is, rape and child murder are now going to have to be a priority for police agencies and that will take them away
from more important endeavours such as generating revenue which will enrage police departments and governments who rely on that revenue,” continued Weston. “That and the stifling of the rape growth could mean a disastrous implosion for law enforcement in the future. The reality is that rough times bring crime which eventually becomes a crisis, giving law enforcement something to do once times get better and ticket writing isn’t the primary form of revenue generation. We could see a major contraction of law enforcement as the economy gets better which won’t do anyone any good.”
As law enforcement agencies across the country begin the effort to overhaul the enforcement system, many are publicly exploring the model
being put forth by British police officials. The British system relies on promoting anarchy in order to maintain relevance, driving the public towards acceptance of ballooning budgets.
“The United States is in a fairly unique position around the world. Nearly every country
has felt the pinch but no country has had the type of erosion that the US has seen at
the city and state level. The British system may be a way to bring back dollars if a boom time erosion does occur, but is likely not a viable way to see them through the current crisis,” continued Weston. “The worst part of this is the damage it will do to the growing female rape segment of the population. Men and women have moved a long ways towards true equality but in crime men have remained on top. Now that women are moving into what was almost exclusively male territory they are hit with this bombshell which could set back women’s rights by decades. Hopefully rapists across the country won’t be discouraged, just more discreet.”
Sales of dildos and duct tape reportedly spiked across the country after the arrest was announced.
