POSSIBLE ARREST IN CHANDRA LEVY CASE STILL LEAVES INTERN DEAD

February 21 2009

Washington, DC – in 2001 the death of former intern Chandra Levy shocked the city, the nation, and destroyed the career of then US Representative Gary Condit. The 24 year-olds body was discovered over a year after her disappearance and to date no suspect had been named as the killer. Now it appears that D.C. police have narrowed in on a suspect and expect an arrest in the next few days. While the news comes as great relief to the Levy family, they have yet to be told that any arrest will not bring their daughter back to life.Chandra Levy

According to the Levy family, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has confirmed that charges will be filed soon after a ‘break’ in the case. It is expected that Ingmar Guandique, a 27 year-old prisoner in Adelanto, California is the primary suspect. Guandique was investigated at the time of Levy’s disappearance but dismissed as a suspect after a series of interviews.

“No doubt this comes as a great relief to all involved. The police, the Condit’s, and most of all the Levy’s but they are going to have to come to terms with the fact that these charges really won’t change anything. Guandique is already in prison and Levy isn’t going to be suddenly resurrected, most likely anyway,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “It would be something else if she suddenly showed up at the trial, sort of proof of God and the afterlife, but again that is unlikely. The Levy family really should be informed of the inherent nature of life and death so that they are not holding onto any false hope.”chandra levy

Resurrection is defined as the rising from the dead or a revival of some kind. The most famous resurrection story in history is that of Jesus Christ, though Levy and her family are of Jewish descent and do not believe in the Christ mythos.

“I have never in all my years of covering crime seen a dead victim show up for the trial. Aside from the impractical and slightly unholy act of returning from the dead, the truth is such an act would take away from the focus of the trial,” continued Weston. “You would also be stuck with the thorny conflict of whether or not the accused could be tried for the death. That’s a legal road that luckily we haven’t had to cross yet.”

Aside from the spirit of Levy, the person likely most relieved at the news is Gary Condit. His affair with Levy brought national attention to the case but also destroyed his reputation and lost him his re-election campaign in 2002. Gary Condit

“Aside from the suspicion that he might be involved, sex scandals involving dead women generally doesn’t pave the way to political success in most cases. True Condit had the affair before she died, but it’s still a sticky situation,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “I sincerely doubt that he will be making some kind of triumphant return to the political arena but at least he can rest easy in the knowledge that he actually did not kill Levy. This will hopefully allow him to get his life back into order.”

Condit has had a volatile post-political career including a failed attempt as a ‘Baskin-Robbins’ franchisee, multiple failed lawsuits, and a son and daughter indicted on fraud charges. Gary Condit and Chandra Levy

“The ghost of Chandra Levy has had her revenge, but it’s unlikely that Condit will have a similar come-uppance, largely due to the fact that he’s not yet dead. Once he’s in the ground it might be a different story, but for now he’s just going to have to learn to live with failure,” continued Kinsey. “Some things once they are done just cannot be undone. No doubt Condit learned that lesson very clearly. It may very well be that he does deserve some kind of vindication out of all this. He was a loyal servant to the country and was undone by circumstance. It’s unlikely though that anyone is going to make the same level of effort for him that they made for Levy."   Ingmar Guandique mugshot

So far Condit has had no comment on the charges but most see that as likely in the very near future due to a desire to stay in the public eye.

“Don’t expect Condit to gain anything out of this despite his inevitable attempts to,” continued Kinsey. “Likely someone will have to remind him as well that he’s dead. Career wise, he’s as dead as Chandra and if he’s hoping for a resurrection, well he’s in for a bit of a shock.”

Guandique is expected to stand trial in Washington which does not support the death penalty, making resurrection equally unlikely for him.
