STUDY SHOWS FEMALE BREADWINNERS FEEL GUILT ABOUT NOT BEING IN THE KITCHEN

December 3 2009

Columbia, MO – The battle for equal rights has spanned all kinds of different causes. From race to sexuality to religious belief the battle to equalize the differences between people has had many faces but has often been defined by one core battlefield. With femal business woman
only two genders the differences between the sexes has constantly been the major fight for basic human rights and even in advanced nations continues to be a struggle that still has great challenges.

While obvious issues such as major imbalances in pay rates and prevalent sexism in media help to further the prevalence of the imbalance between the sexes, a new study from the University of Missouri indicates that it is women themselves who are causing much of the differences and challenges facing the equality battle. The study, which quizzed 15 women, showed that many who are the principal breadwinners in the home feel a great deal of guilt about not being at home. While the details of the guilt are a little lacking in the study, speculation suggests that many women still perceive themselves in a more traditional role which includes cooking, cleaning, and making their man happy, something that simply cannot happen when they are spending all of their time working.femal executive

“The female breadwinner is an increasingly important and common role in contemporary society, one that impacts family relationships, individual identities, and organizational policies. This study showed showed that most successful working women, with men at home taking care of the family, enjoyed the sense of independence and control they have over their own lives, but they often found themselves up against cultural expectations that they should be at home with the kids,” said Rebecca Meisenbach who conducted the study. “Because of the time involved in going to work, working, and travelling back home many women simply don’t have time to cook robust dinners, take care of the children, and then perform all of the womanly duties that husbands deserve. This is a serious challenge facing feminism that could potentially undo all of our progress.”

Meisenbach acknowledged that the principal reason only 15 women were surveyed in the study was a result of their only being 20 in the entire state with careers.woman cooking

“The status of women throughout history has been, to say the least, erratic. There have been queens and empresses, and slaves and prostitutes. That is very unlike the struggles faced by any other so-called minority because they have power but none at the same time. In the west things have improved dramatically in the last century or so but obviously we still have a lot of work to do,” said Scrape TV Family Values analyst Marge Hendricks. “Because of the fundamental requirement for multiple incomes in today’s world we simply cannot do away with women going to work but we unfortunately have lost something that we, we as women and we as a society, need to regain.”

The study offered no suggestions on solutions. Throughout the country millions of women have careers and the situation with the Missouri 20 is believed to be a microcosm of the larger issue.woman cleaning

“Part of the solution could be shorter working days, or four day work weeks so that woman can get their work done properly. The option might be some kind of medical stimulant that would allow women to stay up later and get the laundry done after everyone else has gone to bed, as an example. However it comes thought something needs to change for the good of the American families,” continued Hendricks. “The rights of women are of course important, I mean I’m a woman, but we can’t sacrifice our fundamental values which unfortunately seem to have fallen by the wayside in recent years. Hopefully this can lead towards a solution that sees families being care of properly.”

Suggestions such as the legalization of plural marriages are seen as unlikely options to restore the family unit.
