ELLEN DEGENERES GIVES LESBIAN TEEN SCHOLARSHIP AND HER PHONE NUMBER

Jackson, MS – In ancient Rome, homosexuality was not only widely accepted but extremely common. While there is little doubt that much of that had little to do with a person’s actual sexual preference and more to do with the rabid overindulgence 
present in Roman life, the acceptance of such sexual acts remained as a fact. 2000 years later, such acceptance is nowhere to be seen. Now one of the last remaining civil rights battles, sexual orientation has never been more confused that it is in the 21st century.
However, that fight has been gaining ground in recent years with more and more homosexual people coming into the spotlight. While there have been openly gay people in the public realm before, it wasn’t until one person came out of the closet in the most public way possible that attitudes really began to change. When Ellen DeGeneres publicly declared herself a lesbian on her hit television show, a renaissance of homosexuality began with dozens of personalities coming out of the closet. Over a decade since that revelation, such outings are common and have helped to once again normalize this one aspect of human sexuality. Of course, not everyone has changed as a Mississippi teen has found out after being forced out of her prom after requesting to bring a same sex date. Now Ellen has once again come to rescue, giving Constance McMillen a $30,000 scholarship and her phone number should she ever become single again.
“I just admire you so much, because when I was your age, I never would have had the strength to do what you're doing. And you're clearly a shy girl! And so by just being yourself and doing what's right, you're going to make a lot of change,” DeGeneres told McMillen on her show. “It's always easy to be quiet, especially when you know somebody might tell you 'no' or it's going to cause a scene. And I love that you're not trying to do anything but go to prom. That's what every kid deserves to go do is to go to prom. It's a big deal.”
DeGeneres was in her late thirties when she came out publicly and has now become an elder spokesperson for many lesbians.
“There’s little doubt that many gay and lesbian people owe a debt to Ellen. Sure, it threw her into obscurity for years, but it helped to normalize homosexuality for many people, and even made it popular. That has led to a much wider acceptance both by heterosexuals and homosexuals,” said Scrape TV Sexual Identity analyst Maria Kant. “She changed the paradigm through her bravery, and that has changed the landscape of the United States in many ways, though obviously there are still challenges. There would be an outrage if this girl had been turned away from the prom for bringing a black boy, but somehow they seem to think they can get away with it because she is gay. Until the wrath of Ellen I suppose.”
DeGeneres has been married to Portia de Rossi since 2008.
“I have to say however that using her show to pick up girls is probably inappropriate. She is married and using her television show as a pickup bar is really sketchy. To remain and icon and an inspiration she has to hold up a certain standard, and hitting on teens is not the right way to go about that,” continued Kant. “Of course, that could mean that there is trouble in the henhouse which could mean that de Rossi is up for grabs. I don’t swing that way, but she is really hot. I’m sure she at least will come out okay from this.”
McMillen is 18, DeGeneres is 52.
