NEW BIOGRAPHY REVEALS LINCOLN’S SECRET VAMPIRE HUNTING PAST

March 24 2010

Washington, D.C. – For many people in the United States Abraham Lincoln stands as the greatest President to ever step foot in the White House. Hs Presidency which saw an end to slavery and through its darkest period the nation has yet endured, abrahama lincoln
outstrips virtually every other events any other President has had to preside over. Though his time in office was short lived, his legacy has only grown despite the likelihood that he lived into old age, his weaknesses would have tainted his reputation. History though, being what it is, has secured his legend.

Despite exhaustive biographies and historical studies of the man and his legacy, there are still secrets in the life of the greatest President. While his actions as President, his personal struggles, health issues, and of course his death are all well documented there are, as is the case with many great men, many secrets still waiting to be discovered. Now a new biography of the President reveals what might be the most shocking revelation yet, perhaps one of the most shocking in the history of American Presidents that could forever change Lincoln’s legacy. With his new work ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’, historian Seth Grahame-Smith brings a whole new controversial chapter to the life of the great President.abraham lincoln vampire hunter

“My goal in writing the book was to add as much real, factual history as possible... to make people — to actually trick people — into thinking they were reading a real biography in the style of, say, David McCullough or Doris Kearns Goodwin,” said Grahame-Smith to NPR. “I fully realize that this realm if writing is a very small and specialized group. They very rarely allow new people into the group and that makes it very difficult to prove your worth, something I struggled with when my first book was published, and something I still have to contend with now. By doing the research and assimilating the information so thoroughly I hope that people will finally be willing to take my work more seriously.”

Grahame-Smith’s previous novel, ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ was a popular hit but a critical bust, particularly amongst the historical community.

“History is a funny thing. It’s really the whole rose-coloured glasses type of thing. lincoln memorial
People are taught to see things a certain way, they expect to see things a certain way, and they will see it that way come hell or high water. The truth rarely enters into the equation which makes historical study, at least in the popular realm, very challenging,” said Scrape TV Historical analyst Lars Luger. “It’s a very small group of people that are accepted into the club and the more extreme your reimaging of the past the more challenging it is to gain acceptance. Portraying Lincoln as a say a philanderer or a cheapskate would be one thing, but pitting him against the legions of the undead is something else entirely. It’s a radical revisionism that isn’t going to make his entry into the club any easier."

Amongst other issues historians have with the book, it is the portrayal of vampires as real that is causing the biggest controversy.vampire

“By tying vampirism into well established events the author is completely rewriting Lincoln’s history. I’m sure very few people would be comfortable with the idea that vampires played a major role in the Civil War, or even that John Wilkes Booth was himself a vampire. It’s not the reality that is the issue, it’s the change to a commonly accepted view of history,” continued Luger. “Accepting vampires into the history of the nation so thoroughly the education system would have to endure a radical overhaul, something most areas of the country would are very hesitant to do even now. I’m sure like many other texts, this will be a popular hit, but ultimately be dismissed no matter how true it might actually be.”

Doris Kearns Goodwin is reportedly working on a new biography of Calvin Coolidge and his poorly documented battles with werewolves.
