REPORT FINDS ONE THIRD OF WOMEN IN US MILITARY GO UNRAPED

March 19 2010

Washington, D.C. – War has always been a man’s game. Throughout the long history of warfare, virtually every commander and soldier has been a man. There are a few notable exceptions, Joan of Arc being chief amongst them, but all in all the game joan of arc
of war has been played primarily by men. That has changed dramatically in the last sixty or so years, particularly in the United States with women becoming more and more a part of the armed forces and major players in conflicts around the world.

Like any new military tactic, the introduction of women to the battlefield hasn’t been without its ups and downs. Joining the ultimate boys club has been one of the most difficult challenges for young women looking to serve their country. The atmosphere of manliness and testosterone, fuelled by the history warriors stretching back through the entire history of human civilization, makes the armed forces difficult for even the sturdiest of men, never mind people perceived as inherently weaker. The good news is that unlike other issues such as voting and equal pay, women in the military have had a relatively easy time integrating. That perception has now been confirmed by the military with a confirmation that a full seventy per cent of women in the armed forces have not been raped or otherwise sexually assaulted.rape

“We are more than pleased with these numbers. The increase in non-rapes has jumped dramatically in recent years from a low of 10 per cent just 15 years ago, to 29 per cent in 2004, to this high. It shows that the actions we have been taking to safeguard the women who fight and die for this country,” said a Pentagon spokesperson. “We now feel confident in stating that the majority of women who are currently a part of the armed forces and those young women who might be considering it as a career can feel safe knowing that there is a 2 in 3 chance of not being raped, the best it has ever been and a situation we expect to only improve. Young women should feel safer than ever in the armed forces.”

It’s believed that up to 80 per cent of the remaining 30 per cent suffered rape, a significant number of them gang rapes.rubens rape

“These numbers are a dramatic change and actually approach the odds facing women in normal society. I mean walk by yourself down an abandoned street in Detroit or New York and 3 A.M. and you stand a much higher chance of being raped than being in the military. That speaks volumes to the work they have done in recent years to integrate women more fully into the service,” said Scrape TV Military analyst Michael Kent. “There was a time when women simply expected to be raped, in fact most just doffed their clothes when walking in for basic training in order to get it done with. Now the majority of women can get by just living in fear of assault.”

The military had begun an aggressive campaign following the 9/11 attacks to try and prevent rapes in an effort to encourage more women to join the military.hot miltary girl

“There has long been resistance to women in the military but the benefits most decidedly outweigh the deficits. I mean they have contractors doing laundry and cooking meals now, but you still have maintenance things like shining boots and dusting and there are no better people to do that than women,” continued Kent. “With all the rapes though women were just leaving the military and no new ones were coming in. I guess to some degree the soldiers did that to themselves but it is good nonetheless to see that situation turned around, hopefully for good.”

The number of female soldiers hit for not making the bed properly has been on the increase in recent years, indicating that other important initiatives are being ignored in favour of the reduction of rape.
