UNITED STATES JUST ABOUT READY TO GIVE UP ON DETROIT, CLEVELAND
December 18 2009
Washington, D.C. – While the recent recession has affected just about every city in the United States to varying degrees one city in particular has received the bulk of the attention both for its decline and the memory of what it once was. In many ways
Detroit was the city on which American industry was built, and in turn the prominence of the American economy owes a great debt to the city. Things have of course not been great in the city; a decaying infrastructure, fifty per cent unemployment, bodies going unclaimed in the morgue, which has of course brought sympathy even from those suffering themselves.
Now though the federal government is taking a different tact with the once great city as they prepare to just do away with it completely. New plans being shopped around the capital indicate that the idea of simply razing the city is gaining new attention,
paving the way for new housing developments and a series of parks and green spaces. Also on the chopping block, again according to the same reports, is Cleveland which has made great strides in recent years but has also struggled with crime and a bad reputation. Other cities such as Memphis, Stockton California, and St. Louis are also gaining ground. Buffalo, it’s believed, will possibly be absorbed into Canada in exchange for sections of Washington State.
“Look, the reality is Detroit just isn’t coming back. We’ve been trying for years but it’s very clear that nothing is happening here. We’ve tried rejuvenating the downtown core to no effect, we’ve propped up the big three, again to no effect. Things just

It is hoped that the razing of the two cities will prompt real action from other cities still hanging in the balance as they realize that the threat of destruction is real.
“It’s kind of an odd thing for people to comprehend but cities disappear all the time. It seems like such an odd thing but it really isn’t an unusual occurrence. Even countries disappear from time to time so a city vanishing every now and then really isn’t that big of a deal, I mean it is for the people that live there but in the big picture it’s not unusual,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “It really makes a lot of sense to lose these two cities. They really haven’t contributed much in recent years and they likely won’t be changing that anytime soon. The best thing to do is just make it liveable space and get something worthwhile out of the land.”
It’s believed that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be relocated, as will the major sports teams still in existence in the two cities.
“The Buffalo thing is interesting. You wouldn’t think anyone would be interested in taking that city and the best thing to do, really, would have been to just make a new great lake. If Canada wants it though obviously they have a reason, maybe make it a giant ice rink,” continued Davidson. “This could really just be the start of a new way of looking at America and a new way to deal with problem cities. I’m sure those other locations will be making even more of an effort once they see these cities being knocked down.”
Oregon, it’s believed, is also on the chopping block pending the success of the current options.
