GENERAL MCCHRYSTAL MEETS WITH FOX NEWS AFTER RESIGNING FROM WAR POST
June 24 2010
New York, NY – “The general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought. The general who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Thus do many calculations lead to victory and few calculations

to defeat: how much more no calculation at all! It is by attention to this point that I can foresee who is likely to win or lose,” Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
When General Stanley McChrystal sat down to his interview with Rolling Stone it is likely that the words of Sun Tzu were not rolling through his mind. His own personal frustration may have been, or his honest interpretation of the never ending war perhaps, or even a sense that the war was continuing to go badly and that he had no way out were all thoughts that may have been on his mind, but the words of Sun Tzu were most definitely not. Those words, criticizing virtually everyone in the Obama administration including the President, who also happens to be his superior officer, has earned the now former General a one way ticket out of Afghanistan and according to sources a ride to the New York offices of Fox News where it is believed that McChrystal will quickly become a correspondent or perhaps even get his own show.
“It’s on the QT right now but the bosses are really excited about the possibility of McChrystal joining the team. They always really like military guys and the fact that he dug into the President makes him the perfect fit for the network. Once they heard that he was being summoned back to Washington they had people on the phones checking his availability,” said a Fox News insider. “Obviously they are going to wait to announce anything because this story is still fresh but they are really going all out to get him, it’s just a matter of the when and how but we will be seeing him on TV very shortly.”
McChrystal met with the President on Wednesday after which he offered his resignation.
“This is an odd situation for all kinds of reasons. The biggest one is the fact that this is a career military man who knows the chain of command and he blatantly violated
that. The President is the Commander-in-Chief, the head of the Armed forces and is therefore McChrystal’s superior. This is insubordination plain and simple and there was no option but for him to be relieved of his post one way or the other,” said Scrape TV Military analyst Michael Kent. “His rationale for doing this is a little confusing and it could be that he was looking for a way out without wanting to quit but it’s also possible that he was becoming so comfortable in his role that he felt he was untouchable. He certainly made some strides in the war but like everything in Afghanistan things turned for the worst again. I mean he had allowed it to become the longest war in U.S. history so he had that going for him but that just wasn’t enough.”
Plans for a proposed withdrawal starting next year appear to be on hold after recent successes by the Taliban.
“A life of public service is certainly an honourable and respectable one but it is hardly the highest paying gig one can get. Look at Sarah Palin and the success she has had since leaving public service. There’s little doubt that McChrystal has been watching that with a little bit of envy,” continued Kent. “This new freedom will create a whole host of new opportunities that should allow for a much more comfortable retirement than a military pension would allow. Frankly, he’s probably done the right thing by him and his family in all of this. Can’t wait to see him sparring with Palin and Glenn Beck.”
Rolling Stone meanwhile has also been a big winner in the controversy and reportedly may move to an all military format in the near future.
