GLENN BECK TO HOLD RALLY AT MARTIN LUTHER KING’S GRAVE
August 29 2010
Atlanta, GA – It is entirely possible that the shadow of race will always haunt the American experience. From the very beginning of the nation, race has been a volatile subject and over two hundred years later is still a vital part of the American identity.
Many believed that with the election of a black President much of the issue revolving around race had been solved and that whatever remained would vanish in short order. However the Presidency of Barack Obama had done the opposite, it has brought the issue of race back to the forefront and a fresh issue for debate.
Of course things are not like they once were. There are no lynchings, there is virtually no organized segregation, and people of all colours have the same equal rights under the law. Nonetheless race is still a vital issue in the country and far from the dream of true equality that many fought so hard to attain. The person most associated with that battle was of course Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who in many ways has become a martyr for civil rights and a lightning rod for advocates on both sides of the issue. In their own ways people of all political spectrums hold King up as a symbol of the issue of race, something Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck did on Saturday in Washington and has vowed to do again this time at the grave of the revered American icon.
“I can tell you that we are all very pleased with the turnout in D.C. and it has shown that the American people are aching for something, something that the politicians simply are not providing but we can give to them,” said Beck through a spokesperson. “We are currently planning more events like this in an effort to engage the American people in the way in which they deserve to be engaged. Americans have turned their back on God and we will turn them back to Him despite what any Left Wing politicians tell us to do. This fight will continue.”
The spokesperson then attempted to cry before stating that the next rally will be at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in Atlanta on April 4 of next year, the 43rd anniversary of King’s death.
“There has certainly been a lot of criticism of Beck and much of that rightly so especially recently. Some have argued that he is dangerous Right Wing fanatic bent on turning the American people
to a dangerous philosophy while others have argued that he a dangerous opportunist twisting people’s genuine fears in an effort to increase the cult of Glenn Beck and make him more money. Whatever the truth, he is certainly proving effective,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “This latest rally, the one on the Mall in Washington on the anniversary of the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech is an example of the showmanship which has made him so successful and I bet that whatever his message the same thing will be true next April.”
The event in D.C. reportedly drew 300,000 people and a great deal of criticism for the perception that it was hijacking King’s legacy.
“Beck knows how to draw an audience. He has after all been doing that most of his life. Much like King himself he is a strong orator and can
appeal to emotions of the downtrodden and the forgotten. He does it with a few more
tears and little more paranoia but ultimately it works out to be the same thing,” continued Davidson. “It’s perhaps fitting then that they will stage a rally at King’s grave. I mean people like Al Sharpton will be aggravated for a number of reasons but that is the price of free speech.”
Sharpton is reportedly planning a rally outside the Mount Vernon, Washington radio station where Beck received his first broadcast job.
