OFFICIALS MULLING PROPOSAL TO LEVEL THE GRAND CANYON AND START FRESH
January 11 2011
Phoenix, AZ – The harsh reality of human expansion and growth is that it has been at the expense of the natural world. The destruction of the rainforests or the strip mining of mountains are just two examples of how destructive we can be with the

world into which we were born. As our population grows and our needs in lock step that destruction is only going to continue and possibly leave no area of the uncontrolled by the forces of mankind.
Of course some of those territories could do with a little conquering. While places like the Sahara or northern Siberia certainly have value to the ecology of their respective regions, whole scale efforts at renovation could change the regions in spectacular ways and render them as new oasis’ for life. We are however a long way away from that and in that means our expansion will break into very sensitive and potentially harmful areas. In the future though things might change and it is the future that officials in Arizona are contemplating. Adding to their recent legislative controversies is a new proposal to completely raze the Grand Canyon and turning into a modern tourist mecca. As expected however more than a few people have an issue with that idea even as it gains traction amongst politicians.
“Basically the idea is we will slice off the tops of the peaks and drop them into the valleys. We will certainly need to bring some fill in from other areas and it will take a long time and a lot of money but we feel the end result will be more than worth all of that effort,” said Arizona spokesperson Bill Linder. “It’s a huge area that realistically goes completely unused. Some people travel the region but that vast majority of people are just there to look. We feel this is a waste of perfectly useable space and we want to make a change for the betterment of the people of this state.”
The core proposal includes a massive theme park as well as hotels and housing developments in the area.
“We recognize the natural beauty of the region and we would make sure to document that through pictures and video but the reality is that
tourism is way down. People spend so much time on the internets doing the Facebook stuff and have no interest in seeing a bunch of rocks and water. Most people just stand and take pictures anyway so we will take care of that for future generations,” continued Linder. “It won’t come without a cost but nothing good ever does. We feel that the type of facilities we will be able to create in the region will far outweigh any notion that something of importance has been lost. We’ve also already been in touch with a number of them park companies and all are on board with creating a Grand Canyon themed log flume, so we will be retaining that history.”
Six Flags is believed to be the leading contender for the new park.
“I have to say that I have never heard of anything so ridiculous and so excessive in all my life. To think that someone would want to destroy this region for any reason is remarkable and incredibly hubristic,” lead opposition voice Rachel Carver. “The Grand Canyon is a beautiful sight and removing would be such a shame, especially at that cost. I mean it’s going to cost billions and take years and the people, the taxpayers today, won’t be able to benefit from the changes and that is just unfair.”
A similar proposal to knock down Mount Rushmore was defeated last year despite guaranteed contracts with SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.
