PETER PAN AUTHOR A REAL LIFE CAPTAIN HOOK
August 30 2010
Los Angeles, CA – There has never been a person alive who has not wished for the gift of perpetual youth. The fantasy of always living in your best times, of never dying, never growing sick or infirmed, and always looking beautiful is an understandable
fantasy and while the reality of such a life may not live up to the dream, we all still dream. In a culture that chases plastic surgery and has grandmothers on Facebook that fantasy is alive and well even if we are no closer to actually achieving such a reality.
Like any great hope or wish in the human experience, the dream of perpetual youth has been embedded in our art. Perhaps the greatest example of such a dream was documented in the modern character of Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up. In the decades since his first appearance in the works of J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan has personified the dream of eternal life and youth for millions around the world. In the process it has done exactly that for the author of the book whose legacy is secured, whose life will live forever. However that was not the case for two babies whose mummified remains were discovered in a Los Angeles basement. New details indicate strong links to the Peter Pan author and authorities indicate that he may in fact have been a real life Captain Hook.
“Whether there's a link to the author, whether these are relatives or whether it's a freak coincidence, we don't know. The whole situation is intriguing, and we're trying to put the pieces together so we can identify the victims and how they got there,” Lt. Joe Losorelli told the New York Daily News. “We found a number of articles linked to Mr. Barrie inside the trunk alongside the remains and our investigation has turned in that direction. We will not speculate as to his possible involvement but it is a course that we are pursuing.”
The trunk in which the remains were found was emblazoned with the initials ‘JMB’, contained a number of papers belonging to a Jean M. Barrie, a Peter Pan book, and a membership card to the Peter Pan Woodland Club.
“It’s an intriguing discovery and completely out of left field. Barrie was not American, he was a Scot by birth, but even in his life he was an international celebrity and it’s entirely possible that he travelled to the Los Angeles area during this time. The bodies were apparently placed in the trunk in the early 1930’s and Barrie died in ’37,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “There was a great deal of speculation that Barrie himself had inappropriate relationships with young children, though no direct evidence was uncovered. That makes this situation all the more intriguing and potentially damning for the author. I mean he’s dead but this would change his legacy forever.”
Barrie did not have any children. Representatives for his estate had no comment on the investigation.
“I think it’s reasonable to assume that he did in fact murder these children and stuff
their bodies in this trunk. He made them into real life Peter Pans, they are perpetually young but not because they are possessed of magic but rather because they are dead and he killed them,” continued Weston. “I mean this is just speculation based on very little evidence but he died unmarried, there were no reports that he had sexual relations in his life, and he hung out with young children and wrote about them. It’s pretty safe to assume that he murdered these children and left them to decay in this steamer trunk. What a monster.”
Libraries in Kansas have already removed all Peter Pan related works and burned them in the street.
