REALLY ANNOYING NEW GUINEA SINGING DOGS FOUND IN PENNSYLVANIA
November 10 2010
Harrisburg, PA – All pets are beloved. Ugly dogs are loved, cats that scratch the furniture are loved. They are cute, they are affectionate, and they have been partnered with human beings for centuries. They act as our protectors and as our
safety blankets. No matter the pet, they are always loved in some way and for no really rational reason. We love our pets and we don’t care who knows, and we don’t care why. We love them and that will never change.
Of course, some pets are more annoying than others, especially other people’s pets. There isn’t a person that has been awakened by the howling of a neighbour’s dog that hasn’t wished, just for a moment that someone would simply take care of the animal. Of course that is often fatigue and stress speaking. Affection for animals is something universal amongst all humans and while abuses certainly occur, they are often the anomaly. Of course even the most ardent of animal lovers can be tested, something especially true in Harrisburg, PA where a group of 80 New Guinea singing dogs were discovered in a squalid home. A rare animal – only 150 are known in the world – the discovery has excited animal lovers who have thus far not been subjected the tortuous howl of the animal.
“This was unfortunately a very sad situation. We received an anonymous tip that led us to a farmhouse on which there were 68 adult dogs and a dozen or so puppies. One dog was on the verge of giving birth. The facilities on site were simply not sufficient to house a population of this size and it appears that this was a hoarding situation,” said State dog warden Georgia Martin. “These are apparently very unique animals and ones that I have never encountered before. The majority of them are healthy and the others appear on the road to recovery, however the same cannot be said for our ears. It’s really something else hearing these animals go at it, especially when you have eighty in the same room.”
While called the singing dog, the howl of the animal is not exactly Celine Dion.
“This is a remarkable find really. There are so few of these animals in the world that this sudden influx of apparently healthy animals means nothing but great things for this breed. I’ve heard the animal and I’m not sure that’s a good thing from a pet standpoint, but from a pure zoological perspective it’s great,” said Scrape TV Zoology analyst Cambridge Walker. “This is a really unique species and so it is good that we are able to keep this diversity in the chain. It would have been a really shame to have seen this species continue to flounder. Of course hearing it flounder would have been a blessing, but I guess that’s what God invented earplugs for.”
The first recorded use of earplugs was in the ‘Odyssey’ but no mention of Holy intervention was made.
“I love dogs personally. These ones are related to dingoes and at least loosely but they are genetically distinct. They aren’t my favourite for obvious reasons, that would be dachshunds, but they are still doggies and so they can’t be that bad,” continued Walker. “Unfortunately these animals are likely as doomed as their siblings. I mean it’s hard enough having one around but keeping pairs and puppies, well that’s just too much to ask. I think it’s likely that these guys will eventually start to die off just like the rest of the breed. I can’t even imagine what they would sound like while doing the deed.”
Dachshunds, better known as wiener dogs, are loved by pretty much everyone.
