CASEY ANTHONY NOW IN BIG TROUBLE WITH THE IRS
May 27 2011
Orlando, FL – Occasionally a criminal case appears that grips people for no rational reason. While the circumstances of that case are almost certainly always tragic, they are not out of line with other such situations that occur throughout the country, or
the world, with regularity. For one reason or another however, some events grip people with a different degree of interest, prompting them to be splashed all over the news and the associated criminal trials to become real events.
Such was the case with the death of Caylee Anthony, the toddler who was murdered in the summer of 2008. That case, and the subsequent charges against her mother Casey, became a national event. While there was certainly a great deal of attention paid to the case because of the nature tragedy involved, the situation became a cause celebre, as engaging a story as has ever been told by Hollywood. Now all these years later the case has finally gone to trial with the elder Anthony on trial for her own life. Naturally, the trial is garnering a great deal of attention both from the public and from other organizations which have a beef with the murderous mother. Chief amongst those complainants is one of the most feared in the United States, the IRS, which is pursuing Anthony for nearly $70,000 in back taxes, piling on even more trouble for young former mother.
“I can’t speak to this case specifically but the IRS stays on top of these things, we are
diligent in rooting out and pursing these types of tax cheats no matter where they might be. Some do get away on occasion, but we get almost every single one them no matter where they are hiding,” said an IRS insider. “This is a good deal of money and you can bet the we are going to pursue it no matter how long it takes. She may think she’s in trouble now, but once we get a hold of her she won’t know what hit her, kind of like her daughter I guess.”
It’s believed that Anthony, a former Disneyworld employee, owes the money based on revenue she earned from selling pictures of her daughter to the press.
“The IRS certainly keeps track of these things and is very good about following up but it’s not always so easy to extract the money from the individual. There are certainly some people who just choose to keep the money, but most people who avoid paying taxes spend it on stupid things. Criminals commit crimes, you know,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “This is a poor white trash girl with little to her name before this case, and who has been taken out of the job market for a long time. She has no assets and little opportunity to earn and that is going to make it very difficult to collect any money, never mind the kind of money she appears to owe.”
Anthony has been in jail awaiting trial since late 2008.
“Much of this will depend on the outcome of the trial. Generally speaking death row inmates don’t earn a lot, and even if they did, at prison wages it would take quite awhile to pay off this debt. That’s going to be especially tough considering that doesn’t have a whole lot of time apparently,” continued Weston. “I think it’s very likely that the majority of this money will simply be gone. I suppose they could pursue a lien on her personal assets and possibly even her prison cell but with the way they pay inmates these days...Well, I’m not optimistic to say the least.”
Anthony had no comment on the tax issue.
