CRITICS HAPPY TO SEE SUPERMAN RENOUNCE HIS CITIZENSHIP

Washington, D.C. – There are many reason why America has become such a powerful and influential nation. An abundance of natural resources, isolation from conflicted areas of the world, liberal immigration laws, and a host of other factors have
contributed to the success of the nation over the last century. However it is one ideology above all other things which seems to have separated the United States from other countries and allowed it to become so successful, the idea of America itself, the dream of the nation itself.
That particular type of exceptionalism has little or nothing to do with those other factors, but its effect on the individuals in the country has pushed them, driven them to ever greater heights, and through them the country has achieved the majority of its success. While the idea of America is simply that, it is a potent idea, one that has compelled people in the country and around the world for generations despite its largely hollow nature. In recent years that idea has taken on a life of its own, become an entity itself, but it got to that position because of the selling of the country, which was done through enterprises like movies, music, business, and publishing. For many Americans one of those entities above all others has sold America to the world, and now he has decided to leave the country behind.
“...which is why I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my U.S. citizenship. I’m tired of my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy,” Superman reportedly states in the newest issue of Action
Comics, the 900th edition of that magazine. “Truth, justice, and the American Way—it’s just not enough anymore.”
Already the hero has met with protests from critics, some accusing him and his handlers of being unpatriotic and many calling for a boycott of the largely fictional character which for decades has stood as a symbol for American dominance.
“This is a slur on the American identity, an effort by do-gooders and apologists to undo the greatness of America. This renouncement of his citizenship is effectively putting a death spike, a spike of kryptonite, into the heart of all Americans and the country as a whole. This may very well portend the end of America as we know it, forever,” said one republican official who preferred to remain anonymous. “This is exactly the kind of political correctness that is ruining this country, and by extension is weakening America as a nation around the world. This hurts us even as we try to lead the globe in fighting terror and in economic recovery. This is a spit in the face of everything our country stands for, everything our founding fathers fought to build, and everything that hard working Americans love and cherish. I urge all comic readers to boycott this issue and all further issues until Superman is once again American.”
Action Comics number 900 is on newsstands now.
“In many ways this is the perfect way for the character to go. Aside from the fact that much of the world loves him regardless of where he lives, one must remember that the character himself is an immigrant, created in part by an immigrant, and so has always been a child of the globe,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “It’s certainly sad to see him go, but sometimes things need to change for the good of everyone. The world is becoming more global, we are bound less by borders, and perhaps it’s time for our heroes to break free from those constraints and become truly global leaders, even if that means leaving their home forever.”
Small protests have been reported outside Superman’s publisher in New York.
