FLORIDA MUSEUM SECRETLY RUN BY FORMER NAZIS
September 10 2011
Tallahassee, FL – After 500 years one would think that any mystery behind any painting would have been solved, or at least forgotten, long ago. That is certainly not the case with one painting, ‘Christ Carrying the Cross Pulled Up by a Soldier’, on display at a Florida museum.
That painting has become the source of a new and potentially dramatic mystery, one that involves the greatest villains on the 20th century and has now stretched across the world.
The painting, done in about 1538 by Girolamo Romano, was revealed to be a part of a cache of stolen goods captured by the Nazis during the Second World War. One loan from an Italian museum, the painting’s recent past has no become the subject of a massive investigation which has led international authorities to a strange and disturbing conclusion about not only the painting, not only how it was acquired, but also about who financed the acquisition of the painting in the first place.
“I just think the sheer beauty of this painting is extraordinary. The sheen of the satin robe it just looks like it could walk off of the canvas,” said Chucha Barber, Ceo of the Mary Brogan Museum. “We are very proud to have it on display here, no matter its history.”
History, though, is exactly what’s of interest to international authorities who have now focussed on the founding and financing of the museum itself.
“Anytime we intersect with the Nazis we are interested, meaning we have to take a certain type of action. We are dealing here with the international trade of a high-valued item that was once in the possession of the Nazi Party and that is an issue,” said an official for Interpol. “We have determined provenance and we can definitively track it to a massive Nazi collection. Like most pieces involved with that era, it was likely stolen, something the museum does not seem all that interested in or worried about, and that has prompted our investigation.”
The museum opened in 2000, a merger between two other organizations, both of which may have had Nazi ties.
“Determining the where and when is exactly where we are right now. Once we can track the origin of the financing of this museum we will be able to determine any actions that should be conducted to rectify the situation,” continued the official. “We will see this painting returned to its rightful owner and any wrongdoing by the museum to be investigated by local authorities.”
The Museum has previously been investigated by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which has been in contact with Interpol regarding the painting.
“Hopefully it turns out that the museum is only loosely related to the Nazi regime. That will at least give them some kind of out, though not a pass. It would be a shame to see the entire museum shut down regardless of its past,” said Scrape TV Historical analyst Lars Luger. “Knowledge is knowledge, even if it was acquired through the raping and pillaging of nations and the murder of 15 million people. I mean that’s a major sacrifice and we should ignore that, we shouldn’t let those death come to nothing.”
Most of the staff at the museum has gone into hiding.
