FLORIDA PSYCHICS ARRESTED, DIDN’T SEE IT COMING

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Belief in something greater than oneself has always been something easily exploitable by people with less than noble intentions. Whether it’s terrorist or cult leaders using religion to gather forces, or people selling books on UFO’s, it’s relatively easy to make a buck of people who are willing to believe without question.
That is exactly what a family in Florida made bank on through a complex and detailed psychic scam that amassed a $40 million fortune and has now landed them in jail. Spanning multiple cities and a countless number of clients, the family became one of the most powerful psychic groups ever, and were apparently stunned when police swooped in. They just didn’t see it coming.
“This is one of the most extreme cases we have seen. The family claimed to commune with not only spirits, but also Gods and even angels. In doing this, they made false promises to people and essentially extorted money from them, from these well-intentioned people,” said a prosecutor on the case. “This is easily the most egregious and greedy of these types of cases I have ever been witness too. And trust me, in Florida we see a lot of them. We are glad we were able to nail them without them finding out.”
Nine members of the family pleaded not guilty to the charges. They are apparently predicting that they will be found not guilty, though that is hardly something unique to psychic criminals.
“For the most part there is little that can be done about psychics. You enter into an agreement and take on the risk, the assumption of falsehood. It is very similar to professional wrestling. You know it’s fake and so you can’t claim you have been defrauded,” said Scrape TV Legal analyst Gabe Hawthorne. “However there are times when things can go too far. Frankly, if they were indeed psychic they should have known what those limits were and been able to stay clear of them. Guess they were lying.”
Police seized millions of dollars in jewellery, watches, and cars from the South Florida properties. The client list of the family apparently included everyone from a best-selling romance author to Fortune 500 executives.
“Proving harm is the real concern here. The assumption is that psychics are inherently fake because, well because they are and that people simply go to them for entertainment purposes. You simply don’t have a case for something like that,” continued Hawthorne. “However, if they are directly trading psychic advice for goods that is something else. You can ask people to pay for a reading, you can charge them to come into your place, but you can’t hold back information and demand payment for release of that information even if it is false. That would be extortion.”
In one case, a member of the family requested an expensive watch to conclude a reading. In another the member asked the client to bury gold coins in a cemetery as an offering, which were then recovered by the family.
“It’s a fine line but prosecutors apparently feel they have what they need to go ahead. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to all other psychics. I mean the case is there on the docket, you don’t even need to be a psychic to see it,” continued Hawthorne. “Given their unwillingness to stop with the activity until they got caught kind of proves the case. I would imagine that is what they will be concentrating on. If they actually were psychic they should have seen all this happening already.”
Prosecutors made no predictions on the outcome of the case.
