JAPAN SENDING EARTHQUAKE AID TO BATTERED U.S. EAST COAST

August 24 2011

Washington, D.C. - That wasn’t your imagination, that was an earthquake. Millions of people up and down the eastern seaboard of North America were left shaken and stirred after an earthquake hit the region, spilling coffee cups and rattling nerves throughout the region.washington monument

While the quake wasn’t overly powerful, a 5.9, the damage to region appeared to be fairly severe. Unlike quake prone areas, the east coast of the country is simply not equipped to deal with quakes which has resulted in damage from Virginia to Canada. In particular, the Washington Monument appears to have been significantly damaged by the shaker and now been closed to the public.

Already nations around the world have begun offering their assistance to the United States to help deal with the after effects of the earthquake, including Japan, which has offered expertise and financial aid to the battered region only months after that country was lashed with its own devastating quake.

“We are very capable of dealing with this incident and the aftermath. We are very grateful to all the countries who have offered assistance but at this stage, we believe we have the incident under control. We are in contact with a number of governments around the world and will consult them as needed,” said a White House spokesperson. “We are particularly grateful to the offers of help from nations with a great deal of experience in this field, including Japan, which was among the first the offer assistance in recovery. We do believe we have the issues under control.”earthquake lawn chair

Aside from the damage to the Monument, cities across the region have had rampant reports of overturned chairs and have been enduring a massive shortage of band-aids. Government officials are reportedly pulling from emergency supplies to ensure the region does not run out of bandages.

“We are well prepared to deal with these types of situation. We have already brought in experts from California and they are assessing the situation on the coast. I can also assure everyone that the functions of government have not been disrupted and that the President, the Vice-President, and the Speaker of the House are all safe and secure,” continued the spokesperson. “We urge people to please remain calm. There is a possibility that we will see further earthquake activity in the near future but we believe that the security measure we have in place will be more than effective in safeguarding the lives of people in the afflicted region.”

During the quake, nuclear reactors were shut down, but the situation with those facilities does not appear to be as severe as it was in Japan.pokemon band aids

“The American people were very active in offering support to the people of Japan and we extend that same offer. We have unfortunately a great deal of expertise in this area and we are offering that whenever and wherever that is needed,” said a spokesperson for the Japanese government. “We already have shipments of band aids and Aspirin ready and waiting to ship. Our experts are able to be on the ground and distributing those supplies within a few hours if required.”

Reports indicate that hundreds of umbrella tables were damaged throughout the region, which is expected to cause a flurry of insurance claims.
