O.J. SIMPSON LAWYER SHOWS UP TO COURT WITH NEW EVIDENCE A LITTLE LATE
January 15 2011
Yarmouth, ME – There are great moments in every generation. D-Day, the JFK assassination, and the fall of the Berlin Wall are all moments that have not only changed the course of history, but also the course of many individual lives. These are
all moments that certain groups of people mark as monumental in their lives, the kinds of moments that stick with them, moments where they remember every detail of where they were when it happened. For one generation, O.J. Simpson provided many of those moments.
Whether it was the freeway chase, the extended and occasionally ridiculous trial, or the never ending aftermath, O.J. Simpson became for many a crystallizing person and that period an unforgettable time. The entire Simpson experience was without a doubt one of the great events of the 1990’s, a social and cultural phenomenon that went far beyond the boundaries of normal criminal prosecution. Few trials have ever had the kind of presence, omnipresence even, that the Simpson case had and few may ever reach again. Now though new evidence has finally come forth that
apparently casts doubt on the entire experience. Even though Simpson was found not guilty, in the court of public opinion he has always been a murderer. Now though, new evidence presented by one of his trial lawyers has apparently proven once and for all that Simpson was indeed innocent, albeit sixteen years after the trial ended.
“We have a number of pieces of evidence that prove definitively that O.J. Simpson was not that killer. We have an expert on battered women, a forensic scientist, blood experts, and an eyewitness who can all absolve Mr. Simpson of these charges,” said Bailey from his Maine home. “We ask that the court allow us to present these experts to bring once and for all this trial to a conclusion and remove all possibilities of doubt in the jury’s mind. We must be allowed to present this new evidence at trial immediately.”
Simpson was found not guilty in 1995 and it isn’t clear if the court will accept new witnesses at this late stage. Simpson is currently in prison on an unrelated charge.
“Generally speaking when a case is filed away, it is filed away. People cannot be tried for the same case twice if they have been acquitted, this is the case in California and has been for a long time. Even if new evidence is presented it is very difficult to bring a new trial, especially in this manner,” said Scrape TV Legal analyst Gabe Hawthorne. “Few judges tolerate lawyers coming late to court, even by a few minutes but this is a little ridiculous. I mean sixteen years late is something really out of the ordinary even if it can bring people who would be integral to the case. I get that Bailey is well respected, but even that has its limits.”
Bailey has been involved in a number of high profile cases including Sam Shepard, The Boston Strangler, and Patty Hearst.
“He means well but respect for him only goes so far. I guess you could use the excuse that he is a little older and he maybe just lost track of time but I think that this very thin. You can’t just change the law because you like someone, that is a violation of the nature of the law itself,” continued Hawthorne. “I also don’t think this would have a major impact on the way the world, or at least people in the U.S. think about Simpson. They have accepted him as a murderer and it is very hard to change people’s minds about things like that. Murder tends to stick around. It’s probably best to just leave it alone.”
Simpson himself apparently has no idea what year it is anymore.
