OFFICIALS CUTTING DOWN MOST OF THE TREES IN YOSEMITE

Mariposa, CA – For decades one massive green space has been a destination for nature lovers across the United States. The sprawling vistas of Yosemite National Park have awed visitors with its soaring cliff tops and lush greenery, but now some of that is going to change.
Officials in charge of the park have decided to take dramatic steps to curb the ever expanding tree population throughout the park by taking chainsaws to the majority of them. Already activists have started to protest the plan which would remove most of the greenery from the park, something for which it has become known.
“It’s disgusting, totally ridiculous that they would even consider doing something like this. The trees are the park and they should harm them in anyway. It’s an affront to everything we love about this park and nature itself,” said one activist.
Undaunted, officials are moving ahead with their plans to remove the majority of trees from the park in order to make way for more visitors. There are no plans to build on the land, something which would require either decertification as a national park or a change in the rules.
“There are just too many trees. We have been very diligent in protecting the forests from things like wildfires and other measures which naturally thin out the populations, but that has had a negative effect on visitors,” said a spokesperson for the park. “The trees have become clogged and way over-populated. You can barely see the forest for the trees, almost literally here. It’s really a detriment to tourism.”
Some trees will be preserved while others will be turned into firewood and deck chairs.
“We don’t want to cut down all the trees but there has been a growing complaint amongst tourists that the trees are blocking views, that some areas are impassable, and other such complaints. This is an effort to remove those blockades and keep people coming to the park,” continued the spokesperson. “Nobody needs this many trees. You’ll see when we are done how good it looks. People complain now but it’s nothing to the number of complaints we are already getting. This change will be better for everyone.”
Park officials also plan to remove bird sanctuaries and install netting on remaining trees to prevent insects. Big bites and animal waste have long been a complaint from visitors to the park.
“I think eventually we are going to see a strip mall or two in the national parks, it’s just the way things seem to be going. People want to get out in nature but they also want the convenience of home. They go out to the park and they forget their bug spray. They want it right now and the best way is to offer that as part of the package,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “This way they will be able to kill two birds with one stone. Well, a lot of birds with chainsaws actually but it’s the same thing really. Bringing more people to nature is always a good thing, you just don’t want all that nature getting in the way.”
Yosemite officials are also considering damming many of the waterfalls throughout the park as part of a plan to generate their own electricity.
