POLICE SUSPECT EVERYONE ON LONG ISLAND MAY BE A SERIAL KILLER

April 15 2011

Riverhead, NY – Until the recent rise in terrorism there was perhaps no real life monster as frightening to regular people as the serial killer. Like the monsters in movies and books, serial killers have long haunted the dreams and nightmares of john wayne gacy
millions of people, driving an almost irrational degree of fear for something that few people have or are likely to ever encounter. Of course, fear is often irrational, often without a basis in reality, a fact which has allowed serial killers to thrive in our collective consciousness.

Serial killers are, unlike zombies or vampires, of course very much real. Though only a few hundred people have died at the hands of such killers, they are still something worthy of concern and serious investigation when they are discovered. The possibility of anyone dying at the hands of such an individual frequently brings a great deal of attention and focus by law enforcement who know all too well the fear such individuals create. While few such cases reach the kind of cultural status, all cases of serial killers have to potential to spin out of control, something police on Long Island are very much aware of as they hunt their own killer. With the discovery of ten bodies, police in Nassau and Suffolk counties are playing their game very carefully and investigating everyone who may have been involved, including all seven million people on the island who could very well be killers themselves.police news conference

“We have a number of leads and directions in which to go, though we are not in a position to reveal those details at this stage. We do however believe that more than one individual may be involved in these killings and we are investigating them from that perspective,” said a police spokesperson. “It is very unusual for us to find this number of bodies at one time and so it is very apparent that they were dumped in this location by and individual or individuals. At this stage everyone, absolutely everyone, is a suspect.”

There are a little over 7.5 million people living on Long Island, though the possibility of travellers being responsible has also been raised.police investigation

“In any investigation you have to start with the widest view possible and then you narrow it down. Essentially you have to suspect everyone but yourself at the beginning and then you whittle it down as evidence excludes and includes individuals,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “Normally you don’t take that idea literally, you don’t include absolutely everyone in the world as a possible suspect because that would make the investigation a little unwieldy. Still, you need to remain open to all potential suspects no matter how unlikely they may seem to be at first.”

Police appear to have focussed their attention on a handful of individuals though insiders have indicated that many more bodies may yet lay uncovered.ted bundy

“The bigger concern would be of course if more and more bodies start to show up. Ten bodies is quite a lot but if they start to uncover many more it’s entirely possible that there is something much bigger at play. While I think it’s unlikely that the entire state has turned into serial killers, there may be a significant number of people who have killed one or two people,” continued Weston. “Obviously if everyone was a mass murderer of some description you would quickly run out of people to kill. One murderer would be killing another one until finally they had to start spreading outwards. Another concern of course would be that if everyone was a killer even the police doing the investigation would be involved, giving them very good cause to put the blame on everyone else.”

Police are also investigating the entire state for a series of chocolate bar thefts across the counties.
