SIX-YEAR OLD FORGIVES SHARK FOR ATTACK BUT FATHER VOWS REVENGE

July 27 2011

Durham, N.C. – Revenge is a dish best served cold. No more tears no, I shall take my revenge. Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. These quotes are just a few of the thousands that speak of revenge, that bitter and age-old jaws the revenge
tradition which affects so many people. They are of course dramatic examples because revenge in real life is rarely successful, and if accomplished often results in imprisonment. For all those failures, though, the lust for revenge has never been quelled in the human spirit.

Revenge leads people on dangerous and injurious paths, travelling roads on which they may never come back. Most people pursue vengeance knowing this all too well yet travel down it all the same. There is something deep inside the human psyche which will simply not allow us to let go of the things people have done to wrong us, to embarrass us, to take from us things which we feel we are owed. As sophisticated as we have become, this one piece of the human puzzle has never been resolved. That is something the father of six-year Lucy Mangum is about to learn the hard as he apparently sets out on a course of revenge against the shark which injured his daughter, despite the child completely forgiving the fish for its actions.

“I tried to swim away. He didn't really mean to do it,” said the six year-old in an interview with a local news station. Her parents were also present at the interview and gave detailed responses, but according to insiders, that calm exterior belies a deep rage that needs to be satiated.lucy mangum

“Craig is a sensible guy, a logical guy. He is a doctor and because of that Lucy was treated properly at the scene. All that training and all of those parts of his personality unfortunately aren’t enough. It’s really eating him up inside, as it is (mother) Jordan. He is very upset that this happened to his daughter and he wants to ensure that it doesn’t ever happen again,” said a family insider. “He wants to make sure that Lucy is okay but once she is fully on the road to recovery he is going to deal with this first hand. He has already been in contact with experts who are tracking the shark and when the time is right he will strike, and strike hard. This is very personal to him.”

Few details of the shark itself were made public, but it did get away and law enforcement officials have declined to do pursue the animal.

“He is very upset at the response from the police. The hospital has been great, but the police have just dismissed him. He is asking for the same thing any father would ask for but he has been continually rebuffed and that is really annoying. He wants shark attack
justice and he feels he is owed at least that,” continued the insider. “Because they are unwilling to do anything about it he is going to take things into his own hands and go after the shark himself. He will get payback for what this animal did to his little girl.”

Such a scenario was also played out in the final movie in the 'Jaws' franchise.

“There is no talking him out of this. Craig lives and dies on his passions and this is something he will never let go of. He will get this fish or die trying,” continued the insider. “No fish, no animal, should be able to attack a little girl and get away with it. If it wants to play this game he is more than willing and this is not a game he intends to lose. Sharks be warned.”

Mangum has already requested a leave of absence from work, for an unspecified amount of time.
