AUTOMATIC CUTS MAY ELIMINATE U.S. ARMED FORCES ENTIRELY

Washington, D.C. – While arguments can certainly be made for the Roman Empire, and few will debate Mongolia’s addition, or even the heydays of Great Britain, most would agree that in it’s time the United States possesses the most formidable military in history.
That measure cannot be taken in comparison to other great nations but rather in the impact it has during its time, and in that realm any argument against the United States being at the top would be a hard one to make. True, the country has conquered nations like the Mongols, but the Mongols stood against poor and defenceless nations, something which few countries are today.
That dominance, though, may be at risk as the country continues to grapple with her economic woes. Faced with the failure to come to an agreement via the supercomittee, many departments of the government will likely face automatic cuts, including the Department of Defense. With a likely cut in the neighbourhood of $500 billion over ten years, the Pentagon is warning that nation may be put at risk if the military is cut, and that it may just quit entirely if they can’t work things the way they want.
“It’s a huge amount of money and losing it is going to mean significant cuts, not only to the development of new projects and the reduction of the nuclear arsenal, but also closing bases and putting soldiers out of work. We could be faced with the smallest
army since World War II,” said a Pentagon insider. “That will put the entire nation at risk. Yes, we do have a pretty big advantage right now but that gap will close and our enemies will get closer and that means trouble.”
While far from firm, it’s believed likely that all divisions of the military would be affected by the cuts.
“It has gotten a lot of people really concerned that we just won’t have the tools we need to deal with threats, both now and in the future. It’s gotten so that a lot of people are so frustrated that they are considering just quitting the whole thing entirely and doing something else. Working in a budget is not the way to run a military,” continued the insider. “People will stay of course but most of them will be less experienced and less talented. That’s the real problem, that all the talent will leave and basically America will be totally vulnerable. We’ll basically have no soldiers and no weapons.”
The United States currently has the fourth largest military by number of troops but dramatically outweighs the rest of the world in terms of hardware.
It’s not clear who will operate the hardware if the military is in fact disbanded.
“If this goes through it will basically be the end of the United States as a nation. The bad guys will overrun us at every opportunity. They already sense weakness, blood in the water, and now we have pretty much confirmed that. This is the end, the end,” continued the insider. “We might as close up now and give over the terrorists because without these funds we are totally vulnerable. The bad guys are here and just waiting now.”
It’s not clear how long the nation will be able to stand with the forces it currently possesses.
