BAY AREA BIRDS GETTING LARGER IN PREPARATION FOR POSSIBLE ATTACK

November 16 2011

San Francisco, CA – There is no debate, none, that Alfred Hitchcock was one of the greatest filmmakers to step behind a lens. Hitchcock though was beyond just a great filmmaker, he was a great artist, the type of creative mind that actually has a real impact on society rather than just providing a source of entertainment.alfred hitchcock

The best example of that is undoubtedly ‘Psycho’, a film which not only changed and horror genre forever, but also penetrated the public consciousness in a way that had never been done before. That film cemented Hitchcock as a legend and ensured that all his movies, no matter their content or quality, would come to be seen by a wide and energetic audience, even his one about killer birds.

While silly in concept, ‘The Birds’ was nonetheless a critical and popular success, owing in large part to the reputation of the director himself. That film would eventually inspire other realistic monster movies, such as ‘Jaws’ , but may have had another unintended consequence on real life birds in the Bay Area. Now that has become a great concern to scientists in the area as they start to see larger and larger avian life, animals that could very well be preparing for an attack much like the events depicted in Hitchcock’s famous film.

“The birds in the study included resident birds as well as migrants, so birds from Alaska or Central America were also showing in increase,” said Rae Goodman who led the study. “We expected them to show a decrease based on the first few studies. That left us with the puzzle of figuring out what was going on.”birds

The prevailing theory has been that the birds have been affected by global warming, but a growing concern that they have been inspired by the 1963 film has many in the area gravely concerned.

The film itself was filmed and depicted life in the Bay Area.

“Hitchcock proved better than anyone else that film could have a real impact on society, that it could actually alter the way people thought and behaved, and that served him very well but, if that has extended down to these birds, it could prove to be a major problem,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “I doubt very much that the birds have actually sat and watched the movie and then somehow plotted to build up their ranks, perhaps through selective breeding, but something is certainly happening and as these birds get bigger and bigger the threat does loom larger, so-to-speak.”the birds tippi hedren

It’s not clear if it is even possible for birds to comprehend a film, never mind rent or purchase a copy and set up an environment in which to view the film. Most birds have no hands.

“It is possible, maybe unlikely, that some mad scientists type was inspired by the film to actually make it happen and has recruited birds over decades, bred them specifically for this purpose, and is preparing to launch an attack on the Bay Area,” continued Poe. “That is certainly an extreme possibility but far more likely than one that would suggest that the birds could do this on their own. Such a thing would take a degree of planning I don’t think even the smartest of birds could accomplish.”

It’s exactly that kind of thinking that got the characters in the film into trouble in the first place.
