CANADA WOOING OKLAHOMA WITH JOB STIMULUS
October 3 2011
Oklahoma City, OK – There have been many countries that have suffered immensely in the recent economic crisis but there have been others who have done okay. One of those latter nations has been Canada which, because of robust bank regulation and strong natural resources, has become an example for the rest of the world with their relative stability and strength through the crisis.
That, in turn, has made the country a much more significant player than it was before the money went bad. Abdicating the U.S. dollar, countries such as China and Russia have begun purchasing Canadian loonies and U.S. companies, particularly mineral and oil companies, have been putting more and more of their dollars into Canadian resources. In turn, that has made Canada reasonably flush with cash and more than willing to part with some of it.
Nominally, that has been seen in the banking and business sector, but a recent move to provide job stimulus in Oklahoma has shown that the country may be interested in more than just companies and may in fact be using this as an opportunity to finally make inroad into American territory.
“As the Department of State proceeds with its 90-day consultation period to determine if TransCanada Corporation's proposed Keystone XL pipeline is in the U.S. national interest, an independent economic study finds that the construction of the
project should provide significant, positive contributions to the Oklahoma economy by stimulating over 14,400 person years of employment,” said oil company TransCanada in a statement. “This $7 billion pipeline project is shovel ready and will put Oklahomans and thousands more Americans back to work once construction begins.”
With a little under four million people, such employment hardly guarantees loyalty, but many see this as only the beginning.
“There is no evidence that any company or country is in negotiation to purchase or otherwise influence the destiny of Oklahoma or any other state. Our state is a country that has long struggled with jobs and we are always eager to accept help from any party interested in helping the people living here,” said a spokesperson for the Governor’s office. “We understand the concerns many people have but we have not had any indication that Canada or any other country has any intentions of taking over Oklahoma at any time now or in the future.”
Geographically, Oklahoma is quite far from the Canadian border, which may be exactly what the country is planning, working from the inside out.
“If I were trying to take over a country like the United States the last thing I would try is a frontal assault. What I would do would be to work from the inside out, gain loyalties in various pockets through the country and before you know it, the country has already been turned and ready for takeover. That’s what I would do,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “The best place to start would be the most desperate and Oklahoma has always been desperate. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here, but it is a good way to do it if you are going to do it, so it’s entirely possible.”
Most Americans, in a recent poll, would be willing to give up Oklahoma. And Rhode Island.
