DETROIT JUST NOT GETTING ANY BREAKS AFTER NICKELBACK CONFIRMS PERFORMANCE

Detroit, MI – For a little while there it seemed liked Detroit was making a bit of a comeback. The auto industry was starting to improve, corrupt leadership had been wiped away, and the sports teams in the city were excelling. As bad as things had been for Detroit for so long, it appeared that things were improving, but then a major step back.
Detroit is, after all, the home of Motown. The only thing the city is known better for than burning buildings and cars is music, so it must have come as a shock to many in the city when Nickelback was chosen to perform at the halftime show during the annual Thanksgiving game.
Thus far, more than 40,000 people have signed a petition to try to prevent the Canadian pop-rock band from performing during the game, to no avail it appears. Organizers appear ready to stick with their original choice regardless of the fan outrage, leaving many in the city wondering if it will ever truly come back or if Detroit is just destined to rot away.
“Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions?” read the petition.
It also noted that viewers at home will be able to mute their televisions, an option attendees at the game simply won’t have.
The Lions are enjoying one of the best starts in franchise history, a particularly engaging thing for fans after the last decade or so of complete ineptitude on the field including a winless season in 2008.
“Even through all those bad years, Lions fans always had the Thanksgiving game to look forward to. In many ways it really has been their SuperBowl, the one real highlight game, the one real event and now while they are having this great season, that one great game has been sullied,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “It’s really quite sad for the fans and it appear that the organizers are simply uninterested in making it good, which is the worst part of the whole thing. They finally got things right on the field and then they go and do this. It’s really a sad day for the city.”
Nickelback, according to a spokesperson, believe they are possibly the best band to have had the opportunity to play at halftime in the city and are by far the best choice.
“Look, things in Detroit aren’t great. They have been improving but there are still lots of problems. There is a lot of crime still, a lot of corruption, and the business sector is still in dire straits but it appeared, possibly, like they were starting to inch back at least a little bit. However they seem to have taken one step forward and two steps back with this,” continued Marvins. “I’m sure they will get through it, the people of Detroit have seen far worse, but they really shouldn’t have to be enduring it. This is a totally preventable incident and issue and the people in charge should really make an effort to resolve it, for the good of the city.”
Nickleback will reportedly be playing a medley of their biggest hits, alongside a new song or two.
