HALEY BARBOUR WOULD RELEASE EVERY KILLER IN THE COUNTRY IF HE COULD
January 12 2012
Jackson, MS – Haley Barbour was, for a little while, a name being tossed around for a possible run at the White House in 2012. Like many possible, he eventually ended up stepping out of the race, holding instead onto his day job as Governor of Mississippi until his term ended just a few days ago. For Barbour it was the end of a successful run, eight years in the top job, and the end of an era.
For others it has been something else entirely. In one of his final acts as Governor, Barbour issued a mass number of pardons, something not unusual for an outgoing leader, that set all manner of criminals free, including a number of convicted murderers now roaming the state with law enforcement unable to do anything to stop them.
While most of the pardons he issued were for simple crimes or people given medical or compassionate releases, it is the release of the murderers, something he has done in the past, that has put Barbour in hot water. While outwardly Barbour has defended his actions as legal and just, privately he has apparently made it clear that he would have released more murderers if he could have, at least in part as a kind of revenge against those who wouldn’t let him run for President.
“The pardons were intended to allow them to find gainful employment or acquire professional licenses as well as hunt and vote. My decision about clemency was based upon the recommendation of the Parole Board in more than 90 percent of the cases,” Barbour said of the releases.
A pardon essentially erases a criminal past, allowing the former inmate to vote, hold office, cross state lines, and even purchase firearms like every other citizen.
In total Barbour handed out more than 200 pardons, most of which have now been blocked by a state judge pending an investigation. At least 4 convicted killers were released before the block was put into place.
“Look, this isn’t the first time we have let killers go. The Governor worked with these people, he knows them, and he knows what kind of men they are. Sure they are vicious and brutal killers, but that doesn’t mean they are bad men and that they shouldn’t be allowed to go free,” said an insider close to the former Governor. “Frankly, he would have released every killer in the state if he could have, show those Liberal do-gooders exactly what’s what. That would show them, and the Republicans who did everything they could to keep him from running for President.”
Barbour backed out of the Republican race early last year amidst questions about his lobbyist past and racism. His love for murderers did not come up, publicly at least.
“He is very disappointed that the courts decided to block these pardons. As Governor he had a 70 percent approval rating which shows that the people of Mississippi approved of his governance, which includes releasing killers, and now these Liberals are trying to subvert the will of the people,” continued the insider. “After seeing this kind of nonsense he wishes he had released more killers, maybe all the killers in the great state of Mississippi. If he had just one more day he would do it, show them what it really means to be Governor. Damn Liberals.”
The killers who did get free before the block have apparently been staying with Barbour, plotting their next move and buying as many guns as they can afford.
