KANYE SHOWS SUPPORT FOR WALL STREET PROTESTS BY HANDING OUT GOLD CHAINS
October 11 2011
New York, NY - Somewhere amidst the anarchy there is real protest in New York. The march on Wall Street has become, as many such situations become, a gathering rather than an event and that has most certainly obscured the message behind the initiative, whatever that might be, but that message does still exist somewhere below the layers.
Because of the noise, though, that message is indeed being lost and drowned out by the cacophony of voices, with no one sentiment rising out of the muck. That, then, is where celebrities come into the game and the protests in New York have not been short of such people.
Already high profile people such as Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, and Michael Moor have appeared at the protests, encouraging and joining in, trying to give some legitimacy to the anger. However it was yesterday that the New York gathering had its highest profile visitor when Kanye West dropped in, very briefly, to encourage the people and show off his new gold chains to the crowd. West was quickly escorted away when it became clear that the protestor’s attention had turned away from the bankers and onto the man himself.
“Kanye was thrilled to be there in person, to see the energy and passion that the
people have. He would like to have stayed longer but unfortunately it became apparent very quickly that he was becoming the focus of attention and that just isn’t why he was there,” said a spokesperson for the rapper. “Kanye was there to lend his support to the ordinary people. I mean he doesn’t even have an album dropping or anything. He was there to support the people and their protests and he didn’t want to make it about Kanye so he left.”
West wore his Givenchy shirt and Balmain jeans to the protest, as well as his protest bling, which he recently debuted at his Paris fashion show. West was apparently motivated to join the protestors after taking out a loan for said show.
He was accompanied by music-mogul Russell Simmons who was able to stay because no one recognized him.
“Kanye will be supporting the protest from home from now on. It was pretty clear to Kanye that with Kanye there Kanye would just get in the way and that is certainly not what Kanye wanted. Kanye feels for the people and Kanye wants them to know that Kanye is there for them,” continued the spokesperson. “This is how Kanye do. Kanye felt that Kanye was getting in the way and Kanye didn’t want that so Kanye will just be supporting from one of Kanye’s homes. The protestors always got Kanye’s support. Keep with it.”
West only distributed a handful of gold chains to the crowd. He also managed to hand out invites to his next show in Milan to a select number of protestors. It’s not clear how many will still be protesting when the show goes down next month.
After leaving the protests, Kanye did what Kanye does.
