LADY GAGA OFFICIALLY PART OF THE EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM
November 10 2011
Washington, D.C. – Some people heard static, some people saw QVC, some people saw nothing, and a handful of people saw what they were supposed to see during last night’s test of the emergency alert system in what officially have already deemed a failure of the system.
Still, like all failures there was a lot learned from the experiment. While it was very clear that the system in its current state simply will not do, the problems are repairable, at least according to FEMA, and there were actually some good things that came out of the failed attempt, including Lady Gaga.
Gaga was apparently heard on a handful of broadcasts across the country, only for subscribers of DirecTV, and apparently drew more attention than any other broadcast, giving FEMA a potentially new avenue to engaging their audience and some evidence that they can at least gain the attention of some viewers, which in the end was the point of the whole experiment.
“The weaknesses exposed by today's test of the emergency alert system are unacceptable. Government and media carriers must work together to make sure the system does what it is intended to do, which is to transmit a nationwide message from the President in a crisis,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
The broadcasting of Lady Gaga was accidental, confirmed by FEMA, but stood as one of the few highlights of the broadcast.
Gaga herself had no official comment on the use of her music, though an insider did speak to us exclusively.
“Gaga is thrilled that her music was used in this way and she encourages all her little monsters to use this as an opportunity to stand up and pay attention to the world around them. She is thrilled that so many people were engaged by the music,” said the insider. “She would be more than willing to participate with the program on a more significant basis in the future. As you know, Gaga has already been actively involved with the President trying to end the bullying issue across the country. She feels that being a part of the emergency broadcast system would certainly go a long ways towards aiding that concern.”
It’s not clear if Gaga would be willing to compose a song specifically for the emergency alert system, or if FEMA would be interested in such a gesture. The two parties have not spoken officially yet.
“Gaga wants all her little monsters to be safe and sound and secure, that has always been her intent and anything she can do to help in that she is willing to do. She is so glad to be a part of a system that encourages safety and action for the people of the country,” continued the insider. “Gaga loves this country, and the world, and whatever she can do to make it a better place is something she is willing to do. Gaga is about love, you know, and that’s all that matters.”
Only one Gaga tune, ‘Paparazzi’, was heard during the broadcast. It’s not clear what type of residuals she would get for actively participating in the program.
