‘OCCUPY BOISE’ EFFORT ENDS WITH NAPPING AND RAINY WEATHER
October 7 2011
Boise, ID – It is likely, most assume quite reasonably, that the efforts to ‘Occupy Wall Street’ will fall flat. Even though those efforts have been taken up all across the country with protestors marching on their government buildings, the actual effort to remove government and business officials from their offices of power are likely not going to go anywhere anytime soon.
That reality, mixed with an already growing dispassion for the effort, will likely doom the initiative in these nascent stages. Already some of the protests from around the country have started to fall on hard times with fewer and fewer people showing up and many going home early.
That was perhaps most evident in Boise when a group of protestors marching on the government buildings took a break for lunch. Quickly, a number or protestors went for naps and many others decided to go home when storm clouds started to appear overhead, leaving the cause with only a handful of wet and alert members still ready to storm the power brokers of Idaho.
“We will not leave until our message is clear. We will occupy where we feel we need to do so in order to make this happen. We are with our sisters and brothers in New York, Los Angeles, and all over the country. We stand with them here in Boise,” said Charlotte, on protestor. “No matter the weather, no matter the time of day, we will be here. We are here until the people of power listen to us and heed our warnings and cries of freedom.”
It’s not clear how many protestors arrived initially, and the remaining ones are too scattered out to count. Similar disbandings have happened in other cities such as Tampa, where people weren’t even sure why they were protesting.
The sky is expected to clear in the city in the coming days but being October the temperature has started to drop. Protest organizers are suggesting that people bring their coats.
“I will be here until we have what we want from them. They know what we want and they will have to give it to us in order to get us to go away. They can’t rely on rain to drive us away, they have to give us what we want and we won’t take anything less,” said another protestor, Mitchell. “Now is our time, the time when we take this back for the ordinary people. We can’t tolerate the pigs walking around and telling us what to do. We will only leave when we have what they want, when they give it to us.”
Mitchell did bring his sleeping bag, indicating that he is indeed in it for the long haul.
“Once the wealthy elite have given this country back to the people, that is when we will go away. Not before and not until,” said yet another protestor who appeared to have just woken up. “These are the people who have destroyed the economy and taken our jobs and they need to be stooped, now and forever and that’s why we are here and why we will stay. When they are gone, we will leave as well.”
We did not wake up that particular protestor. Boise officials said they didn’t even notice the protestors and will deal with them if needed.
