OHIO SETS UP NEW EARTHQUAKE MEASURES SO THEY DON’T END UP LIKE JAPAN

January 15 2012

Columbus, OH – The world has certainly been on edge over the last few years, economically, politically, socially, and physically. Things are unstable, no doubt about that, but as bad as they have gotten, few expect the world to open up and swallow us all whole. Well, except for the Mayans of course.global apocalypse

Still, fear is palpable force, a danger that reaches beyond the rational world, something that cause people to panic with banks and stocks, and something that can bring real world violence. Fear is the driving force behind much of the world’s current instability, and our ability, or lack thereof, to manage that could be the deciding factor in how we move ahead as a species.

Of course, there is no clear way to manage fear. For some people the idea of looking danger in the face and standing strong is the best way to keep the demons at bay, and for others building up security, walls around the danger, is the best way to keep fear at bay. There is no one way to do things, of course, but officials in Ohio feel that the latter method is preferable at least as far as earthquakes are concerned so that the state doesn’t end up like Japan or Haiti.haiti earthquake

“Specific to that, earthquakes are so broad in category that we don’t have a one-on-one say do this, do this, do this. It falls under that emergency operations plan,” said state official Clark Jones of the Mahoning County Emergency Management Authority. “It gives a general outline of what to do prior to earthquakes to be prepared for them if you’re in an area that’s prone to earthquakes, which we seem to be all of a sudden.”

Last year, there were eleven earthquakes throughout the state which no one but those in the state were worried about.

No one was killed in those events and no nuclear plants, of which there are two in the state, came very close to melting down and spreading radiation across the planet.

The state has gotten a bunch of firefighters and other emergency officials to formulate emergency measures should a major quake hit the region, trying to prevent the mass causalities and/or nuclear disasters that have plagued the rest of the world.cleveland

“We are trying to make Ohio safe. We have seen the power of these quakes and it is clear, for whatever reason, that Ohio is becoming a center for these events. We have called in experts from all over the world, well, all over Ohio and Pennsylvania anyways, to help us formulate an emergency plan so that the fates that befell those other places do not hit us,” said a state emergency insider. “We don’t want hundreds of thousands of dead or nuclear plants collapsing around us. We are determined to learn from the mistakes other people have made and grow, become better. We want to make this the most earthquake ready region of the world so that the people here don’t need to worry about being killed or irradiated.”

Amongst the experts are two second generation Japanese men, and one black guy with an accent that may be from Haiti, or possibly Lousiana.
