SCOTT WALKER HOPING POOR WOMEN GET MORE CANCER

December 18 2011

Milwaukee, WI - Few diseases, no matter how devastating, have ever held the same type of power over human beings as cancer. It isn’t so much the mortality of the disease, it is the ubiquity of it. Virtually everyone in the world has been affected by cancer and those who haven’t will be. Cancer is everywhere and strikes often without any type of rhyme or reason. It is insidious and totally destructive.breast cancer screening

Luckily, treatments have improved in recent years. No longer are we as victimized by the disease. Many versions of cancer are now treatable and early screenings catch some the deadliest forms before they become a serious issue, resulting in a lot of lives being saved, giving us collectively a real advantage over the disease.

Not everyone has access to that treatment though, including, provided Governor Scott Walker has his way, the women of Wisconsin who is looking to make sure that as many women as possible end up with either breast or cervical cancer by simply cutting out screenings.

“The program is still in place. The Well Woman, in particular to make sure women have access to exams for cancer and other things, is funding. It's in place. We're just not contracting with Planned Parenthood to do that,” said Walker. “There's other providers throughout the state who have that. Planned Parenthood is not the sole provider of that. There are many clinics that are not as controversial as Planned Parenthood, and our goal was to make sure low-income women had access to those sorts of screenings from other providers around the state that don't carry the controversy you get with Planned Parenthood.”

The ‘Well Woman’ program provides free screenings for multiple types of cancer as well as Multiple Sclerosis, which Walker apparently just finds amusing.milwaukee city bus

The Governor did not promise less cancer during his campaign, and therefore is not obligated to protect anyone from the disease.

“Access to medical care is always a good thing. These treatments are certainly available at other places but, as is often the case, poor women likely won’t seek the treatments if is even remotely difficult to access. Now women, used to getting treatment down the street, will have to travel across town, even transferring buses, and that will make them less likely to get screened and thus more likely to get cancer and die,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “It’s really a shame too because it is just politics. It’s clear that the Governor care more about re-election and his political philosophy than he does about women dying. Of course, poor people tend not to vote Republican if they vote at all. Polling stations are usually a few transfers away.”scott walker

Walker steadfastly refused to campaign in poor areas, expressing concern that it might be contagious, like the cancer.

“Many women are going to die. They are going to get cancer and die and that is Governor Walker’s responsibility. Perhaps he hates women, or just poor people, but whatever the case more women are going to get cancer and that kind of sucks,” continued Phelps. “No one wants to die of cancer, not even women, but unfortunately they just don’t have a choice in Wisconsin anymore. Pretty soon there will be no poor women anymore.”

Which is apparently just fine by Governor Walker.
